I completed my Ph.D. in the lab of Shelley Payne at the University of Texas at Austin. The purpose of this project was to determine the contribution of iron acquisition to the environmental survival of V. cholerae. To that end, I developed an assay to determine the amount of biofilm growth exhibited by the wild type strain and various mutant strains. During these studies, I discovered that iron also was involved in the regulation of the two major outer membrane proteins, OmpT and OmpU. Most experimentation concentrated on the global iron regulator Fur and/or a small, iron-regulated, regulatory RNA called RyhB.

Currently, my projects as a postdoctoral fellow include dentification of protein complexes through mass spectrometry analysis and validation of gene networks through gene knock-down experiments.
